Meru is a town in eastern Kenya and the capital of Meru County. It is located on the north-eastern slope of Mount Kenya, about 240 kilometres from Nairobi. The region is characterised by its fertile soils and agricultural importance, particularly for the cultivation of coffee, tea and miraa (khat). Meru has a rich cultural tradition, which is characterised by the ethnic group of the same name.
